Fishguard is a good base for many sporting activities and outdoor pursuits.

Fishguard Leisure Centre - has a swimming pool and gym. Fishguard Leisure Centre 01348 874514. Open Monday – Friday from 7.00 am – 10.00 pm, Weekends 8.00am – 5.00 pm. For swimming pool times, classes and to book a badminton or tennis court, please ring the above number.

Walking - there are so many places to walk in and around Fishguard that we’ve made a separate Walking section in which we’ve started to show the various routes that you can take. To go to our Walking section, click here

Bird Watching – recently the pechora pipit was spotted on Goodwick Moor. (A good place to spot birds is by the flagpoles on Goodwick Parrog, looking towards Dinas Head.) Birds often seen in the inland areas near Fishguard are buzzards, red kites, kestrels, redwings, kingfishers, green woodpeckers and peregrine falcons. Climbing - There are more than 3,000 climbing routes in Pembrokeshire. The main area in  the north of the county is the St Davids Peninsula. To protect nesting seabirds, routes are sometimes closed. Coasteering - the varied coastline of north Pembrokeshire with its exciting cliffs and bays with hidden caves and pools is ideal for coasteering. Opening hours:  9am till 5pm all year, 9am till 9pm summer. Thisis a new mobile activity centre offering kayaking and coasteering at locations near Fishguard, St David’s, Tenby and Cardigan.  Why travel for an hour or more when we can come to a site near you.

 

Diving - Pembrokeshire is a treasure chest when it comes to its marine habitat and is as varied, dramatic and colourful as the Coastal National Park itself. There are dives that cater to all levels of ability and with regular sightings of porpoise, dolphins and seals, not to mention over 350 known wrecks, it is easy to understand why many divers return year on year to indulge in underwater Pembrokeshire.  One of the leading diving centres  is based in Goodwick:   Celtic Diving Base  Goodwick Parrog, SA64 0DE Tel: 01348 871938 Mob: 07816 640684    and will give PADI diving and scuba diving courses from beginners to advanced professional abilities.

Golf - There are some golf clubs around the Fishguard area, including:

Priskilly Forest Country House & Golf Club   Priskilly Forest, Castle Morris, Haverfordwest, SA62 5EH.   01348 840276   www.priskilly-forest.co.uk    which is a Country house & golf club with a  restaurant with licensed bar and golf shop.

Kayaking - You can explore this amazing coastline in a kayak whether you are experienced or an absolute beginner. The Mike Mayberry kayaking  centre in Goodwick even has ‘Try it and See’ sessions for £10.00 just for you to find out whether you want to try kayaking in earnest. (Phone 01348 874699.) Look out for seals, dolphins, the occasional minke whale, porpoises and puffins.

Horse Riding - There are two riding stables in Fishguard:  Maesgwynne Riding Stables, Fishguard and Llanwnda Stables, Goodwick. The area is great for the rider, both experienced and inexperienced, with lots of quiet lanes and bridleways.

Sailing - The north coast of Pembrokeshire is a perfect area for yachting, with stunning views of the coastline and hidden bays inaccessible from the mainland.  Goodwick Marine (1 Wern Road, Goodwick,  Fishguard Tel 01348 873955  www.goodwickmarine.co.uk ) is perfectly placed to provide all sorts of services to the yachtsman (Chandlery, engine service, boat repair & maintenance, haul out, storage. Selling equipment, outboards, new boats, electronics and angling essentials. ) The Welsh Yachting Association   www.welshsailing.org   will give information on any events in the west Wales coastal area.
