For people who hate the anonymity of the usual shopping centre with its ubiquitous chain stores, Fishguard and Goodwick provide a breath of fresh air with their variety of specialist shops and old family run businesses. There are a couple of small supermarkets, but you can also buy food in our more traditional food shops, and there are some rather good coffee shops and cafes to take a well earned break while exploring the different shops there are to be found in the town. Markets:There is a weekly market on Thursday mornings in the Town Hall, a Country Market on Tuesday mornings in the St Mary’s Hall, and a Farmer’s Market every other Saturday morning, again in the Town Hall. The Last Invasion Tapestry exhibition At the Town Hall, Market Square, Fishguard. Tel: 01437 776122. The tapestry was created in 1997 by the townspeople of Fishguard and Goodwick for the bicentenary of the Last Invasion of Britain. Entry is free, but groups need to be prebooked. The West Wales Arts Centre was established in 1987 and is now regarded as one of the premier galleries operating outside London. Exhibiting fine and applied art by established and emerging artists, the gallery is recognized for the important role it continues to play in the development of both artists and art form. An extension in recent years houses Cafe Celf which doubles as a facility for music recitals, lectures and meetings; the Cafe is fast establishing itself with a high reputation for fine food and wines.
